On the occasion of the first FNRS Awards ceremony organized in Brussels in the presence of numerous researchers and patrons, the nine scientists were congratulated for the quality of the research they carry out in the laboratories of the University of Liège.

very year, the FRS-FNRS - the Belgian National Fund for Scientific Research - organises, co-organises or contributes to the management of some twenty prizes, scholarships or awards, financed by private patronage (foundations, companies, etc.), for the benefit of researchers who distinguish themselves in their field. Wishing to change the usual formula a little, the FNRS inaugurated its first FNRS Awards ceremony this year. Organised at the Concert Noble in Brussels, it brought together the actors of these scientific patronage events and the prize winners. Out of the twenty or so prizes awarded, nine were given to researchers from the University of Liège.
Olivia GOSSERIES (GIGA-R) and Florence SCHLEICH (CHU de Liège) are the French-speaking winners of the AstraZeneca Foundation Award for Rare Diseases, which recognizes innovative and promising research in the fields of coma for the first, and asthma treatment for the second.
Damien SLUYSMANS (MolSys) is the winner of the Antonella Karlson Prize, which is awarded for a thesis in a field of exact science. He receives this prize for his work entitled "Studies of the mechano-chemical properties of oligorotaxane foldamers at the scale of the single molecule by AFM".
Benjamin G. DEWALS (FARAH) is the recipient of the Josephine Charlotte Award for scientific research in the field of viral infections, in relation to health, for his research entitled "Interactions between gammaherpesviruses and cytotoxic T lymphocytes".
Eric SALMON (GIGA-R) is the winner of the SCK-CEN Roger Van Geen Chair Award, which honours the scientist for his research in the field of nuclear energy or radiation.
Jean-Michel LAFLEUR (IRSS) is the winner of the Wernaers Prize for the popularisation of science, which rewards his collaboration on the book « Pourquoi l’immigration ? 21 questions que se posent les Belges sur les migrations internationales au 21e siècle ».
Tine D’AES (GIGA-R) is the winner of one of the Belgian L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Sciences Fellowships for her research on Cdtk7, a potential therapeutic target in ischemic stroke.
Steven LAUREYS is the winner of the Generet Prize for Rare Diseases for his research on altered states of consciousness caused by severe brain damage.
Maxime BOUTIER (FARAH) is the recipient of the McKinsey & Company Award for the social and economic relevance and practical applicability of his thesis entitled "Development of an attenuated recombinant vaccine against Cyprinid herpesvirus3".
