The institutional repository of the University of Liege gets a brand new look! Just like its new logo, ORBi offers a more modern, cleaner interface while providing many new features. This major update crowns 15 years of commitment to Open Access!

O

RBi (Open Archive and Bibliography) is the institutional archive of the University of Liège. Created in 2008, this open archive underlines the University of Liège’s willingness to make its scientific work available to everyone, without financial or technical constraints

To reinforce this commitment, the University has put in place a mandatory deposit mandate: only publications and communications in ORBi are taken into account for internal reviews. By implementing this ambitious institutional policy, the University of Liège has positioned itself as an important Open Access actor and as a model both nationally and internationally.

ORBi then became indispensable: the tool now provides services, not only to various departments within the University of Liège, but also to external institutions and organizations. In July 2021, the milestone of 200,000 references available on ORBi was reached. Many scientists and academics of ULiège are now convinced of the interest of depositing their texts in Open Access to improve their visibility but especially their referencing and citation rate. “It is encouraging to note that, on average, in 2021, the references of articles deposited on ORBi with the full text in open access received more citations (9.09) than those deposited with the full text in restricted access (6.64)" notes Paul Thirion, Chief Librarian.

For the general public, ORBi offers free and fast access to almost all the publications and communications of ULiège researchers.

What’s new?

ORBi has been considerably reworked to be more intuitive and in tune with the evolution of scientific publishing! A new, more ergonomic and cleaner design, an interface that is now mobile-friendly, real-time statistics, the possibility for researchers to link their ORCID profile, new possibilities for depositing their references faster (import by DOI, automatic extraction of data from PDFs), etc. To find out more, we have compiled a list of all the new features on this page.

The new version of the ULiège institutional repository has been developed by the ULiège Library teams taking into account the suggestions of the users, the requests of the institution and the evolution of the technologies. In order to make ORBi a tool always adapted to the needs of its users, developments and corrections will be added at regular periods. The ORBi team will be happy to receive your opinions and suggestions!
