A fifth episode dedicated to the JUICE mission - JUpiter ICy moons Explorer - which has just been launched by ESA and which will make detailed observations of the gas giant planet Jupiter and its three large oceanic moons.

T

he ESA probe named Juice - JUpiter ICy moons Explorer or explorer of Jupiter's icy moons will make detailed observations of the giant gas Jupiter and its three large oceanic moons Callisto, Europa and especially Ganymede, with a payload of ten unique scientific instruments.

The mission will characterize these moons as both planetary objects and possible habitats. It will also explore in detail the complex environment of Jupiter and study its entire system as a model for the model of gas giant planets in the Universe. We talk about it with three guests: Emmanuelle Javaux, a biologist and Bertrand Bonfond, an astrophysicist, both researchers at the Faculty of Sciences of the ULiège and Christophe Grodent, an engineer at CSL (Centre Spatial de Liège).

The JUICE mission

The JUICE mission is the new exploration instrument of the European Space Agency (ESA), which will reach Jupiter in 2031 to make detailed observations of the planet and its three large icy moons. The mission was launched from Kourou in French Guiana by an Ariane 5 rocket.

About this episode

The speakers:

Emmanuelle Javaux, biologist and director of the Astrobiology Research Unit of the University of Liege. Her work focuses on the evolution of life from its first traces to the study of bio-signatures for the search of life in the solar system and beyond as well as the conditions of planetary habitability.

Bertrand Bonfond, astrophysicist, qualified researcher of the FNRS and vice-director of the research unit STAR. Specialist of Jupiter and its moons that his laboratory (LPAP) has been studying for many years

Christophe Grodent, electromechanical civil engineer, commercial director and member of the guidance council of CSL, the Centre Spatial de Liège. Center that has seen two of the four instruments on board JUICE

At the presentation:
