The rain did not get the better of Team ULiège, still present in force and ready to set the mood for this 2023 edition of the 15 km of Liège Metropole. No less than 801 students, staff members and alumni gathered on Sunday, April 16 at the Parc de la Boverie to take up one of the sporting challenges of this emblematic annual event in the Cité ardente.

P

or the fourth consecutive year, the University of Liege was the most represented educational institution. A mobilization of 801 runners, for a total of 10,230 km covered together!

In a good-natured atmosphere and encouraged by the Cheerleaders team, the ULiège team, of all generations (from 17 to ...78 years old!) was the perfect illustration of "Mens sana in corpore sano" .

Roger le Toré, the ULiège mascot and star of the pack (without having run!) took selfies after the finish line, just a few steps away from the tent of our Kinesitherapy students, which was full and in front of which a nice line quickly formed.

The Faculty of Applied Sciences wins the interfaculty challenge!

The battle raged for the very first title of the interfaculty challenge.
If all the Faculties and the Central Administration of ULiège were largely represented (with a good presence of the Gembloutois despite the distance), two Faculties particularly distinguished themselves.
While the predictions were going well until the moment of the departure, we can announce that it is the Faculty of Applied Sciences which wins this first challenge!

With fewer participants than the Faculty of Medicine, it was the Faculty of Applied Sciences that mobilized the most (in proportion to the number of students/staff per Faculty, 5.28% versus 3.62% for the Faculty of Medicine! ).
The motivation of the latter is no less exceptional: 217 runners for 2.846km covered!

On a collective level, these two sub-groups were the two fastest of the day and finished at the top of the podium!

A first victorious participation and a confirmation

On the 7 km, Benjamin Rondal, already second last year and graduate since a few months (Kinesitherapy - Faculty of Medicine), confirmed his performance by taking again the silver medal with an average of 18 km/h. With an even fuller agenda (he has opened his own practice in Spa and works at the University Hospital of Liege (Physical Medicine Department). In the face of ever-increasing competition, this is a magnificent performance.

Another record: that of Julien Claessen ! On the 21 km trail and in rolling, but very slippery conditions, he won the race (average of 14.8 km/h). Assistant and doctoral student for the Faculty of Medicine (Department of Pharmacy), Julien had registered at the last minute after the cancellation of another race and was running a trail for the very first time. A promising success!

In the women's race, ULiege was present in the top 20 of the different courses but did not manage to get a podium. The experienced Irene Tosi (Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, winner 2019 and 2022 on the 15 km) was making her comeback on the 7 km after a long injury (7th).
