In the 20th edition of the QS World University Rankings, ULiège moves up from 521-530th place to 421st place, a gain of 100 places in one year. ULiège's position is positively influenced by two additional indicators used to calculate its overall score. It ranks 149th worldwide for the diversity and scope of its international research network, and 318th for its actions in favour of sustainability and transition.

T

his rise coincides with a significant change in the methodology used by QS to rank the 2963 universities evaluated worldwide. However, ULiège remains at a disadvantage when it comes to indicators over which it has little control: the careers of its alumni, its international reputation and the faculty student ratio.

While the University is attentive to how it is perceived internationally and is delighted with these encouraging results in one of the world's most influential international university rankings, it remains cautious about rankings that favour certain types of institutions and whose indicators very imperfectly reflect the specificity, diversity and quality of its research and teaching.

ULiège has therefore committed itself to favour a more qualitative research evaluation by signing the San Francisco Declaration (DORA) in 2022 and the European Agreement on Research Reform (CoARA) in 2023. At the same time, it is rolling out its action plan for the quality of teaching in order to develop its courses and the careers of its students.  Implementing these commitments is an institutional priority that is being translated into concrete changes in ULiège's research practices and curricula.
