Trends Impact Awards

Winner of the Trends Impact Award in the technology category, the University of Liège spin-off RumeXperts, founded in 2020, is revolutionizing the dairy industry with their Salve software. This innovative software uses artificial intelligence to make milk production more sustainable and economically profitable, in perfect alignment with ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) criteria and the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).

T

he Trends Impact Awards, a collaboration between Trends-Tendances, the audit, consulting and tax firm PwC Belgium and Antwerp Management School, aim to award a prestigious prize to companies that implement (or have implemented) projects and strategies that generate a positive impact and create sustainable value in line with key ESG criteria and SDG goals. The awards are organized around eight categories, from technology to diversity and inclusion. They recognize companies leading their organizations towards a sustainable business model based on rigorous projects.

The selection process was meticulous, involving experts from PwC, professors and researchers from Antwerp Management School, and journalists from Trends-Tendances. Bold and innovative companies such as RumeXperts were selected not only for their projects' seriousness, interest and success but also for their commitment to sustainability and their positive impact on society.

In this context, RumeXperts, a spin-off company from the University of Liège founded in 2020 by Anne-Sophie Rao and Léonard Théron, stood out with its innovative dairy cow breeding sector approach. Their software, Salve, collects and analyzes a vast array of data related to milk production and rearing conditions. Thanks to powerful algorithms, farmers can optimize their cows' diet, monitor their health and adapt rearing conditions in real-time. The results are remarkable: a significant increase in milk production, reduced animal mortality and lower CO2 emissions. For every kilogram of milk produced, a farm using Salve software emits one gram less of methane, helping to reduce the environmental impact of the dairy industry.

The winners of the Trends Impact Awards were announced on October 25, 2023 at Brussels Expo. Their success testifies to the ability of these entrepreneurs to commit to a more sustainable management of their activities beyond traditional objectives and to their capacity to innovate with a real impact on their sector.
