Two projects involving researchers from the University of Liège have just been approved as part of the 2ᵉ call for projects under the Interreg VI France-Wallonie-Vlaanderen (FWV) program. Although ULiège is not the coordinator, it will actively participate in the implementation of these new cross-border collaborations, which aim to respond to major environmental and social challenges.
The Interreg France-Wallonie-Vlaanderen (FWV) program, for the period 2021-2027, has been allocated 268 million euros from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). This funding aims to strengthen cross-border exchanges and cooperation between the regions of Hauts-de-France, Grand Est, Wallonia, West and East Flanders. The selected projects cover five priority themes: Research & Innovation, Climate & Environment, Mobility, Social Cohesion and Governance.
Under the 2nd Interreg VI FWV call, 2 research projects in which ULiège is a partner have been funded:
- RE-TUBHe : Renaturation of the Urbanized Territories of the Hainaut Basin | Coordinator : City of Mons - ULiège partner : Grégory Mahy (Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech - Biodiversity, Ecosystem and Landscape)
The RE-TUBHe project aims to initiate the ecological restoration of the Hennuyer basin, a cross-border territory shaped by the alluvial plains of the Haine and Escaut rivers, between Mons-Borinage and Valenciennes Métropole. The partners will implement a renaturation plan for wetlands altered by anthropization, based on co-construction with local stakeholders and experiments carried out in areas of economic and industrial activity. - FAMILY - Favoriser l'Accompagnement des Mille premiers jours pour Initier des Liens durables et Y parvenir | Coordinator: Fédérons Les Villes pour la Santé (France) - ULiège Partner: Maria Elena Brianda (Faculté de Psychologie, Logopédie et Sciences de l'Education, Research Unit for a life-Course perspective on Health and Education (RUCHE))
The FAMILY project is part of Priority 4 of the Interreg FWV program, dedicated to strengthening health and social cohesion in cross-border territories, and aims to support parents during their child's first 1,000 days, improve their well-being and prevent the risks of parental burnout. The project includes the creation of a cross-border peer support network, training workshops for professionals and parents, and the provision of accessible places and tools to encourage sustainable family ties.Find out more about the project.
These two new projects reinforce ULiège's participation in the Interreg VI FWV program. Through these collaborations, the University continues to put its scientific expertise at the service of territories, actively contributing to the development of concrete, sustainable solutions in line with regional and European strategic priorities.
