Recycling is not a luxury or a fashion but a necessity, which stems from a very simple observation: we live in a limited world. Contrary to what we have believed for a long time and especially in the "golden sixties", our human activity is not infinitely developable, as it is limited by limits in terms of energy, natural resources, space or simply nature's ability to adapt.

R

ecycling, reuse, re-use, regeneration or recovery are behaviours that aim to minimise the energy used, to make the most of materials, to reduce the risks of pollution when manufacturing, using or disposing of these materials. Generally speaking, this means seeking to delay as long as possible the time at which an object becomes waste.

The course is based on 5 modules and a series of video vignettes to introduce key figures, concepts and theories to understand waste and secondary resource management, as well as expert interviews to explore more specific issues.

The activities proposed are quizzes, literature reviews and a personal contribution to the solution of a problem: helping an architect to better recover waste in a building renovation.

5 modules

  1. Recycling in the world of construction
  2. Aggregates
  3. Binders
  4. Insulators
  5. Integrative task: which solution to propose in the presented situations?

THEMES: ENVIRONMENT | SCIENCE | SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT | SOCIETAL ISSUES
