Biography

Throughout my carreer, I have been developing projects in Conservation and Evolutionary Genomics in mammals (felidae, canidae, gliridae, mustelidae). I am also particularly interested in developing projects that study the genomic signatures (adaptive, non-adaptive) of urbanization and more specifically to what extent do organisms respond to the altered climate and resource availability of urban areas via phenotypic plasticity and/or genetic adaptation. I am interested to develop projects that would study more specifically how urban areas act as genetic sources or sinks in preserving biodiversity. The results of such research could directly inform political, institutional decisions at the city levels regarding the preservation of the biodiversity as political systems guide urban growth and development. Beyond biology, studying evolutionary biology in a city context is a great opportunity to disseminate evolutionary knowledge to a large audience. As one of the founders of a non-profit organization `lacYme asbl¿ in Liege, I am already involved in different projects involving citizen science in urban environments (Bioblitzes, urban hikes). Interdisciplinary collaborations will help inform how political, institutional, social, cultural, and ethical factors play a direct role in shaping how processes of urban evolutionary ecology unfold and interact. Further, stratification of wealth and property ownership shapes the distribution and management of urban spaces, thus constructing the urban ecosystem. As a scientific collaborator, I am now affiliated with the SEED team (https://www.seed.uliege.be/) in order to bring and discuss the interdisciplinarity linked with the study of cities and the preservation of biodiversity.
