Dans une application de réalité virtuelle, déterminer les objets qui sont présents dans le champs visuel de l'utilisateur est chose aisée mais savoir précisément où se porte le regard est plus compliqué.
Un système de tracking visuel permet de solutionner ce problème. Il se compose de cameras qui filment les yeux et d'un algorithme qui permet d'inférer de la position de chaque pupille permettant ainsi de déterminer le pixel qui est regardé dans l’environnement.
Les applications possibles sont nombreuses et variées. Celles-ci seront évoquées au cours de la séance. Particulièrement, nous illustrerons le fonctionnement du système dans le contexte de l’évaluation des biais attentionnels, c’est-à-dire, la propension d'une personne à porter son attention de manière préférentielle sur l'objet de sa dépendance, comme, par exemple, en cas d'alcoolisme.
