Nearly 8,000 baskets of organic and local products distributed to students

The operation carried out as part of #Let’s keep in touch! ended on 24 June.

The last distribution of organic and local products baskets was organised on Thursday 24 June. It was the 20th weekly distribution organised since 4 February 2021.

In order to help students in the context of the health crisis, the ULiège launched an operation with the Ceinture Aliment-Terre Liégeoise to distribute free baskets each week consisting of fresh vegetables and fruit, eggs or pasta, chocolate, etc. Soup and feminine sanitary protection were added during the operation.

Each week, an average of 300 to 350 baskets were distributed in Liège (20-Août cafeteria), 50 in Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech and 25 on the Arlon campus.

In total, nearly 8000 bio-solidarity baskets were distributed (without registration and on presentation of the ULiège student card).

On the initiative of Anne-Sophie Nyssen, Vice-Rector for Education, in charge of Well-being, the Student Quality of Life organised the distribution logistics and contacts with the suppliers, all of whom were local (La Bourrache, Vent de Terre, Au Fond des pans, Al'Binete, Agribio, Les Co'pains, Ethiquable, Agrigovert).

ULiège would like to thank the City of Liège, which made it possible to add a soup to the basket each week, and the Bruz'elle association, which provided sanitary protection (once a month).

The operation attracted donations from individuals amounting to 2,075 euros. In addition, the Rotary of Amay Villers-le-Temple supported the students of the ULiège with a donation of 2,000 euros. Thank you all!

The operation will be extended with the creation in the coming months of a solidarity grocery shop for the students of the Liège-Luxembourg Academic Pole, a project already designed before the pandemic within the Pole.

The ULiège Student Social Service is also available throughout the year to answer any administrative or socio-economic questions and to consider ways of intervening..
