2024-2025 Academic Year Ceremony

The University of Liège celebrated the start of its academic year on September 17. Rector Anne-Sophie Nyssen orchestrated the ceremony around the theme "Sciences, freedoms, democracies".

In the presence of staff and students, as well as political and civil society figures, the University of Liège officially opened its 2024-2025 academic year. In addition to a speech by Rector Anne-Sophie Nyssen, the ceremony was punctuated by speeches from various representatives of the academic, scientific, administrative, technical and working bodies, as well as students.

Throughout the year, the theme of "Sciences, freedoms, democracies" will be reflected in the selection of Doctors Honoris Causa and in various events, conferences and debates.

Speech given by Anne-Sophie Nyssen, Rector of ULiège

Rethinking the way we "make community", based on collective intelligence and commitment, taking up the challenges posed to our teaching and research by the world's transformations, placing university teaching at the heart of society, making ULiège shine with pleasure, passion and pride: these were the objectives presented by Rector Anne-Sophie Nyssen in her speech.

She also reminded us that sciences, freedoms and democracies are intimately linked, as much as they are simultaneously threatened.
