As part of its ongoing commitment to the safety and well-being of its staff and students, the University of Liège has teamed up with Prismify, specialists in the development of serious games, to create an educational game, ULiège SafeLab.
From discovering the beginnings of a fire to handling chemicals, ULiège SafeLab immerses players in ten emergency or dangerous situations. Developed specifically for the University of Liège, this serious game aims to raise awareness and educate the university community about risks and good safety practices in research and teaching laboratories. Designed in French and English, ULiège SafeLab is the fruit of close collaboration between experts from Service Universitaire de Protection et d'Hygiène du Travail de l'ULiège (SUPHT) and specialists in the field of serious games.
ULiège SafeLab players are immersed in a 3D virtual environment, whose details faithfully reflect the laboratories of the University of Liège, and where they are confronted with various risk scenarios. Through this immersive, interactive experience, they learn to identify hazard pictograms, and to adopt the right reflexes when handling dangerous substances or in an emergency.
Interaction is at the heart of the gameplay, with multiple-choice questions that test players' knowledge and reaction to risks. Correct answers advance the scenario, reinforcing good safety practices, while mistakes offer learning opportunities through specific feedback and practical advice.
Integrated into the e-campus e-learning platform, ULiège SafeLab has been available since the start of the 2025 academic year to students and staff working in the laboratories of the Faculties of Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Sciences, Applied Sciences and Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech. It will enable users to practice safety procedures in a risk-free virtual setting, enhancing their ability to apply this knowledge in real-life situations.
