More than 3,000 people, divided into 206 teams, cycled on March 19 and 20 at 16 locations across Liège. The goal was to help raise funds for Télévie and the Léon Frédéricq Foundation and to support cancer research.

As every year, many of you have come together to support the Télévie campaign, which supports cancer research. Launched in 2016, the “24-Hour Bike Challenge” has become the flagship event of the Télévie campaigns held throughout the year at the University Hospital of Liège and ULiège, in collaboration with numerous partners*. On March 19 and 20, the 206 participating “” teams(with 10 to 24 members per team) took turns cycling non-stop for 24 hours on stationary spinning bikes.

Two new features this year!

  • A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Léon Fredericq Foundation, the university hospital foundation of the CHU and the University of Liège, to fund cancer researchers in Liège.
  • A partnership was formed with the local media outlet Q4atre, which mobilized journalists, technicians, and staff to cycle and broadcast the event live on TV, YouTube, and its Twitch channel.

Each of the 206 teams raised the minimum amount of 800 euros. The goal, while encouraging participants to push themselves and raise awareness of the benefits of physical activity, is to make a significant contribution to donations made to Télévie and the Léon Fredericq Foundation. A total of 402,338 euros was raised through this challenge, which was taken up by approximately 3,000 participants. Last year, at the same time, 311,000 euros had been raised, representing an increase of more than 91,338 euros!

Cancer research at ULiège and the University Hospital of Liège

Currently, 175 researchers are funded through the Télévie campaign in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, including 55 at the University of Liège. These scientists work every day to advance research in the field of oncology. Since 2003, ULiège and the Liège University Hospital have been working together to organize fundraising campaigns and appeal to the generosity of citizens and businesses. Last year, the check presented by the two institutions totaled 402,025 euros, out of a total of 13,351,977 euros in donations for Télévie as a whole. The goal for 2026 is to exceed this amount once again.
