Competing in sports, exploring one’s artistic talent, starting and running a business, or getting involved in a club: the college years can also be a time for pursuing a meaningful personal project alongside one’s studies.
To support and encourage students’ passions, ULiège has offered the status of student-athlete and student-artist since 2010, supplemented by the status of student-entrepreneur (since 2014) and student-activist (since 2022).
This year, ULiège has 122 student-athletes, 9 student-artists, 16 student-entrepreneurs, and 61 socially engaged students. These statuses are granted by a committee composed of field experts, university staff members, and student representatives. They provide access—within reasonable limits—to a range of accommodations designed to help students balance classes and exams with rehearsals, competitions, meetings, or essential performances as smoothly as possible.
These accommodations and benefits may vary depending on the student’s profile:
- Greater flexibility in daily life: Customized schedules allow students to effectively balance their academic commitments with their passions.
- Personalized support: Tailored mentoring and support services provide customized guidance for each category of students.
- Skill development: The transferable skills developed in these fields are highlighted, enhancing students’ professional profiles.
- Specific access to ULiège facilities as needed.
- Recognition from the institution: The granting of specific statuses celebrates the value of artistic, entrepreneurial, athletic, and community-engaged activities, strengthening the sense of belonging.
