The CRef has just published on its website a ": Joint Statement: Research and Education are the Foundation of European Competitiveness and Resilience," in which, alongside VLIR and the Councils of Rectors from Germany, Spain, France, the Netherlands, and Poland, it calls for an ambitious strengthening of European investment in future European research, innovation, and education programs (FP10 and Erasmus+).
Against a backdrop of geopolitical tensions, intensifying competition and growing pressure on academic freedom, the statement stresses that research, higher education and mobility are strategic drivers of sovereignty, innovation and democratic cohesion. It advocates for an autonomous FP10, based on excellence and collaborative research, a stronger Erasmus+, and an ERA Act that protects open science.
