Action by students in solidarity with Palestine. A message from Rector Anne-Sophie Nyssen
A "Sit-in liège students in solidarity for Palestine" is currently taking place at the University of Liège, on the Place du 20 août campus.
As a public university open to the world and is anchored in the scientific, cultural and economic development of its region, the University of Liège relies on its three pillars: teaching, research and civic engagement.
ULiège trains responsible citizens who are provided with cutting-edge knowledge and critical thinking, are able to share knowledge and can push forward an increasingly complex world.
ULiège develops and promotes excellence in research, multidisciplinary and direct engagement with its instruction.
Global exposure is a top priority at the University of Liège. The institution offers a wide range of international mobility opportunities to students, researchers and staff, enabling them to enhance their cross-disciplinary skills and language knowledge.
ULiège: an experience of daily living. Located in 3 cities and 4 campuses, the university is a key player in terms of the environment and mobility.
The reception at ULiège of a large delegation from UdeM made it possible to identify opportunities for collaboration in transdisciplinary fields of the future.
O
n November 27, 2019, the University of Liège received a large delegation from the University of Montreal (UdeM) led by Rector Guy Breton and by the Vice-Rector for International Affairs and Francophonie, Prof. Guy Lefebvre. The Quebec delegation also included several representatives from the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
For ULiège, the Academic Authorities were surrounded by representatives of the Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Philosophy and Letters, as well as the Department of International Relations.
A joint agreement to support teaching and research projects has already been in place between the two universities since 2016. An IMACS (International Master in Audiovisual and Cinematographic Studies) master's degree (120 credits) involves both universities. Internships, particularly with the Faculty of Medicine and UdeM University Hospitals, are frequent. Student exchanges feed academic exchanges.
The working meeting highlighted new opportunities for collaboration in the fields of digital technology, artificial intelligence and health. In addition, the Liège and Montréal teams will identify promising sectors in order to increase exchanges of students, doctoral and post-doctoral researchers and professors. The possibilities of co-financing these exchanges will be analysed.
A return mission from ULiège to UdM is envisaged.
In the field of health, efforts will continue to be made to welcome internal doctors from Liège to the UdeM for general medical practice. Artificial intelligence programs applied to health are also promising.
Favouring a very interdisciplinary approach within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the UdeM teams underlined their interest in developing collaborations in the fields of cybersecurity, gaming, digital museology, machine and deep learning as well as astrophysics and optical instrumentation. The Quebec delegation visited the Centre Spatial de Liège after the meeting and lunch at the Château de Colonster.
