Meeting of the UniGR Council at the University of Liège
The seven partners of the Université de la Grande Région met at the Château de Colonster (ULiege campus) to take stock of current collaborations and outline the future of the consortium.
As a public university open to the world and is anchored in the scientific, cultural and economic development of its region, the University of Liège relies on its three pillars: teaching, research and civic engagement.
ULiège trains responsible citizens who are provided with cutting-edge knowledge and critical thinking, are able to share knowledge and can push forward an increasingly complex world.
ULiège develops and promotes excellence in research, multidisciplinary and direct engagement with its instruction.
Global exposure is a top priority at the University of Liège. The institution offers a wide range of international mobility opportunities to students, researchers and staff, enabling them to enhance their cross-disciplinary skills and language knowledge.
ULiège: an experience of daily living. Located in 3 cities and 4 campuses, the university is a key player in terms of the environment and mobility.
The need to save energy is imposed both by the force of the catastrophic and undeniable consequences of global warming and by the brutality of an unmanageable rise in prices.
Faced with this immediate threat, the universities have decided to act in a concerted and coordinated manner. A first measure is to limit the temperature of heated rooms to 19°C. Any other possible measure with a general impact will also be the subject of an inter-university consultation, the objective always being to rationalize the use of energy resources, while remaining particularly attentive to minimizing the impact of this rationalization on the staff as well as on the training and reception of our students.
Beyond the urgency of the cost explosion, the universities are pursuing all their sustainable development policies involving significant investments in improving the energy performance of their buildings and developing rationalized mobility. The effect will be gradual, without excluding short-term gains, particularly through investments in heating control.
No quick savings measure will compensate for the tenfold increase in prices, but a general reduction in consumption will also push prices down. The universities are firmly committed to this logic, which benefits everyone.
