Action by students in solidarity with Palestine. A message from Rector Anne-Sophie Nyssen
A "Sit-in liège students in solidarity for Palestine" is currently taking place at the University of Liège, on the Place du 20 août campus.
As a public university open to the world and is anchored in the scientific, cultural and economic development of its region, the University of Liège relies on its three pillars: teaching, research and civic engagement.
ULiège trains responsible citizens who are provided with cutting-edge knowledge and critical thinking, are able to share knowledge and can push forward an increasingly complex world.
ULiège develops and promotes excellence in research, multidisciplinary and direct engagement with its instruction.
Global exposure is a top priority at the University of Liège. The institution offers a wide range of international mobility opportunities to students, researchers and staff, enabling them to enhance their cross-disciplinary skills and language knowledge.
ULiège: an experience of daily living. Located in 3 cities and 4 campuses, the university is a key player in terms of the environment and mobility.
Rector Anne-Sophie Nyssen supports the motion of support for asylum seekers adopted on 20 December by the ULB Academic Council.
We hereby express our disapproval and our concern that the highest authorities of the State do not comply with our laws. The Belgian State, already condemned thousands of times for its failures by national and supranational jurisdictions, and while accepting these condemnations, refuses to comply with the injunction made to it to pay penalty payments. This dramatic and inhumane situation continues despite the multiple alerts launched by field organizations, such as Médecins du Monde, Samusocial, Médecins Sans Frontières and the CIRE.
Today, we, citizens, teachers, researchers, students, and administrative, technical, management and specialized staff, proclaim our refusal to allow this policy of non-action to continue in our name. We demand that those who have taken on the responsibility of dealing with this problem finally assume their full responsibility. Concrete solutions exist and can be implemented immediately, such as accommodation in hotels and the distribution of requests in the "CPAS" throughout the country. Beyond emergency solutions, only a structural response can guarantee a reception of asylum seekers that respects human dignity as well as the legal obligations in this matter.

The Conseil Genre et Égalité de l'Université de Liège has developed a violentometer: a simple and effective tool to raise awareness of sexist and gender-based violence and harassment within our institution.
The seven partners of the Université de la Grande Région met at the Château de Colonster (ULiege campus) to take stock of current collaborations and outline the future of the consortium.
