ULiège supports the "Steel Roots and Wings" project

On May 24, 2023, the Board of Directors gave its support in principle to a project to promote the industrial heritage of the steel industry in Liège, as a lever for cultural, academic, economic and environmental development projects.

Spearheaded by the ASBL "Des racines et des ailes d'acier", the project aims to create a heritage center around two main axes:

• The complete renovation of the Ougrée blast furnace, with the aim of illuminating it in an eco-responsible way and allowing visits both inside and out.
• The creation of a knowledge center combining past, present and future, where every visitor can find answers to their questions about steel, in terms of research, study and technology.

The ASBL's objective is to create a convergence of ideas and strengths around the Haut Fourneau, in which the University of Liège can play an active role.
