Astrophysicist, philosopher and poet Aurélien Barrau, renowned for his commitment to the defense of nature, opened the RÊVE GÉNÉRAL festival on Tuesday evening, bringing together art, science and democracy.
In front of a packed audience, Aurélien Barrau gave a a lecture, entitled "La science face à la catastrophe écologique" (Science facing ecological catastrophe), to open RÊVE GÉNÉRAL, the festival that has set up for a month on the Sart Tilman campus.
The French astrophysicist, who specializes in general relativity, black hole physics and cosmology, is director of the Grenoble-Alpes Center for Theoretical Physics, and is renowned for his commitment to the defense of nature, gave a brief overview of the ecological catastrophe and the role of science in the face of this disaster.
An intense evening, punctuated by texts from actor David Murgia, the festival's patron, and meaningful exchanges with the audience!
As a prelude to the conference, Anne-Sophie Nyssen, Rector of ULiège, presented Aurélien Barrau with the insignia of Doctor honoris causa of the University of Liège.
Aurélien Barrau also met some sixty Master's students and their teachers. A privileged moment of exchange, under the dome of RÊVE GÉNÉRAL, from an interdisciplinary angle. The breakfast was followed by a visit to Pot'Ingé, the collective vegetable garden of doctoral students at ULiège (School of Engineering).
This festival (re)reconciling art, science and democracy offers a lot of activities: exhibitions, conferences, master classes, shows, concerts and workshops on issues such as health, migration, food transition, ecology and gender.
