The University of Liège is continuing its commitment to cross-border cooperation with the approval of six new research projects as part of the second call for projects under the Interreg VI Grande Région program. Among them, the REMOCOSAN project, coordinated by ULiège, aims to facilitate equitable access to quality care, as close as possible to the patient, by overcoming administrative constraints. These six projects will benefit from substantial financial support for their implementation.
The Interreg Grande Région program, co-funded by the European Union and Wallonia, has been supporting cross-border cooperation between partners in the Grande Région for over 30 years. With an ERDF budget of almost 182 million euros for the period 2021-2027, it aims to build a cross-border area that is greener, more supportive, closer to its citizens and endowed with better governance.
Following this second call for projects, six initiatives involving ULiège research teams have been selected. These projects cover themes as diverse as health, sustainable mobility, the bioeconomy, responsible viticulture, training and regional planning.
REMOCOSAN is coordinated at ULiège by Professor Benoit Pétré and Marine Paridans, researchers in the Department of Public Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine.
Faced with the challenges posed by chronic diseases, REMOCOSAN proposes an integrated approach to care in the Greater Region. The project aims to strengthen cross-border cooperation in the healthcare field by seeking to overcome administrative and financial constraints linked to borders, and by capitalizing on healthcare practices. It focuses on three main areas:
The project's innovation lies in its integrated approach to care and prevention, from the hospital to the front line of care, at the heart of a sustainable healthcare system. It follows on from the COSAN, EDUDORA and APPS projects.
In addition to REMOCOSAN, five other large-scale projects were selected under this 2nd call for proposals:
The MMUST+ project aims to develop a territorial intelligence tool to improve mobility in the Metz-Sarrebruck-Trêves-Verviers-Marche-en-Famenne area. It will enable better planning of transport supply, reducing car use in favor of sustainable solutions.
Thanks to an innovative algae cultivation technology, the ALGAE-BOOST project aims to produce sustainable biomolecules (cosmetics, food supplements, bioplastics), while valorizing industrial CO₂. The project aims to create a value chain "from algae to capsule" that can be industrialized in the Greater Region.
The YesWiClim project supports wineries in the Greater Region in their efforts to achieve more sustainable production. The project combines climate forecasting tools, good agricultural practices, packaging reuse and the promotion of green jobs. It relies on the collaboration of all winegrowing professionals.
The FabLabs4Innovation project connects university fablabs in the Greater Region to provide wider access to prototyping technologies. It aims to improve student employability and support entrepreneurs through multilingual training and access to shared equipment.
The LATI project supports the implementation of a cross-border territorial development strategy. Drawing on the UniGR network, it strengthens the exchange of knowledge between researchers, decision-makers and urban planners, with a view to coherent, sustainable planning in an area marked by diverse administrative cultures.
ULiège will also be a methodological partner in the InteGRaVert project, also selected as part of this 2nd call for projects.
These projects are further proof of ULiège's commitment to meeting common challenges in the Grande Région. By coordinating projects such as REMOCOSAN and actively contributing to other strategic initiatives, the university plays a key role in implementing innovative solutions for sustainable development and enhanced cooperation.
