The CRef expresses concern about current developments that undermine one of the foundations of our democracy: the university.
Press release from the Council of Rectors dated February 4, 2026.
As a public university open to the world and is anchored in the scientific, cultural and economic development of its region, the University of Liège relies on its three pillars: teaching, research and community service.
ULiège trains responsible citizens who are provided with cutting-edge knowledge and critical thinking, are able to share knowledge and can push forward an increasingly complex world.
ULiège develops and promotes excellence in research, multidisciplinary and direct engagement with its instruction.
Global exposure is a top priority at the University of Liège. The institution offers a wide range of international mobility opportunities to students, researchers and staff, enabling them to enhance their cross-disciplinary skills and language knowledge.
ULiège: an experience of daily living. Located in 3 cities and 4 campuses, the university is a key player in terms of the environment and mobility.
Since spring 2024, ULiège's violentometer - a tool to raise awareness of the fight against violence and abuse of power - has been distributed and made available to the university community with a view to reaffirming its policy of equality and guaranteeing the well-being of everyone who attends.
In April 2025, at the initiative of Conférence des personnes contact Genre, higher education, adult education and research establishments in the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles are uniting around a campaign to combat violence and harassment, with a new version of the violentometer[1]as the main tool.
As part of this wide-ranging campaign, ULiège has redecorated its staircase at B8 (Sart Tilman) in the colors of the violentometer, to make its support for the university community even more visible. As a reminder, the "Behaves " study (2024 survey on SGBV and harassment in higher education establishments in the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles) announced that 29.7% of respondents had reported having been victims of at least one SGBV behavior since entering their establishment.
These alarming figures are a reminder of the importance of reacting and putting in place sustainable measures to ensure a healthy institutional climate. After all, every individual within the establishments of the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles should be able to flourish and see his or her well-being improved.
This joint initiative is part of the Gender and Equality Council of ULiège, which, since its creation in 2022, has been implementing projects and events linked to gender equality and inclusion, thereby consolidating the institution's values of respect, non-discrimination and citizenship.
