Bus network : the changes announced for the start of the new school year, as well as the arrival of the tribus.

Starting Monday, August 24, several bus routes serving the Sart Tilman campus will be modified. These changes are intended to increase capacity, improve the reliability of bus service, and make transfers easier.

The main changes taking effect on August 24

• B2 (Guillemins–Amphitheâtres–CHU–Botanique):
  Capacity will increase by approximately 25% with the gradual introduction of new “tribus” (triple-decker buses).
• Line 3 (République Française–20 Août-Amphithéâtres-CHU-Botanique):
  Route extended to the Botanique stop, restoring a direct connection to downtown Liège.
• Line 8 (Standard–Amphithéâtres–CHU):
  Now serves the Amphithéâtres stop, but no longer runs on Saturday afternoons or Sundays.
• Lines B2, 3, and 8:
  The “Village” stop has been removed for buses heading toward Liège.
• Line 59 (Loop on the Sart Tilman Plateau and Liège Science Park):
  Extended to Guillemins Station, reestablishing a direct connection between Liège Science Park, the Liège Space Center, and downtown Liège.
• Line 41 (Seraing–Ougrée–Amphitheatres):
  Several adjustments aimed at improving service regularity, including the elimination of one round trip.
• Lines 25 and 28 (Fléron-Tilff-CHU-Amphitheâtres / Chênée-CHU-Amphitheâtres):
  no changes.

These improvements follow, in particular,two satisfaction surveys conducted by the University of Liège among its students and staff members, as well asdiscussions held with student representatives as part of these surveys. Thanks to the collaboration of the university community, the information gathered helped identify and reinforce several priorities, which were then brought to the attention of LETEC services to enhance the appeal of the bus service serving the campus.

Increased Capacity on Line B2

Line B2 (Guillemins-Amphithéâtres-CHU-Botanique) has seen its capacity increase by approximately 25% thanks to the gradual introduction of18 tribus (triple buses).

These new 24-meter bi-articulated vehicles can accommodate approximately 150 passengers, compared to 120 for the buses currently in service. Their deployment on the Liège metropolitan area’s first BUSWAY line will begin gradually starting September 14.

Line 3 is being extended to Botanique

This change responds to strong demand from members of the university community who attend the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the Institute of Botany. The extension of Line 3 , reestablishes a direct connection between downtown Liège and this campus neighborhood.

Line 8 now serves the Amphithéâtres stop

To increase travel options to downtown Liège, the Amphithéâtres stop is now served by lines B2, 3, and 8. Students and staff can thus take “the first bus that comes along” on any of these three lines to reach downtown Liège.

To make this route extension possible within available resources— —Line 8 no longer runs on Saturday afternoons or Sundays. Lines B2 and 3 continue to provide service between Sart Tilman and the valley on weekends.

The schedule for Line 8 has also been slightly adjusted toimprove connections with the tram at the Standard terminus.

Line 59 provides a direct connection between Guillemins and the Liège Science Park

Line 59, has been extended to the Guillemins station, providing a direct connection between Boncelles, the Liège Science Park (LSP), and the Guillemins.

Between the LSP and Guillemins, the route of the Line 59 — —is identical to that of the B2. The stops served by this extension are “Guillemins Station,” “Place des Franchises,” “Général Leman,” “Monument Gramme,” “Pont du Val Benoît,” “Mairie d’Angleur,” “Tennis Club,” and “Beau Hêtre.”

To make this extension possible within available resources, service on Line 59 is concentrated during the morning, midday, and evening rush hours, when travel demand is highest. 

As a reminder, Line 59 does not operate on weekends.

Regarding lines 41, 25, and 28:

The route 41 schedule is undergoing some adjustments aimed at improving the regularity and reliability of travel times. One round trip per day will be eliminated for operational reasons. These adjustments follow an analysis of the line’s operations and traffic conditions observed on the ground.

No changes are planned for the lines 25 and 28. Routes and services therefore remain unchanged.

These changes address the needs of the university community

These changes follow the dialogue and consultation efforts carried out in recent years between ULiège and LETEC, particularly based on the results of satisfaction surveys conducted among the university community and discussions with student representatives. Several of the priorities expressed in this context are thus being implemented at the start of the academic year.

The University and LETEC intend to continue these discussions in order to contribute to the ongoing improvement of public transportation service to the campuses.
