On September 21, the University of Liège hosted a welcome reception for its officially enrolled international students. It was an opportunity for them to explore their university, get to know one another, and interact with university staff as well as representatives from embassies and consulates.
With nearly 4,000 students from all over the world, ULiège pays special attention to welcoming them and helping them integrate into the university community.
Pierre Duysinx, Vice Rector for Mobility and International Affairs, opened the event in the Academic Hall by reiterating the University’s commitment to international outreach and the importance of supporting students from abroad throughout their academic journey, before briefly presenting the city of Liège and the history of the institution.
Pascale Ruth, Honorary Consul of Latvia, then introduced the representatives from the embassies and consulates in attendance, highlighting their role in supporting students from their respective countries. Frédéric Ciabatta, from the International Relations Office, then took the floor to present the Welcome ULiège International initiative and the support services available throughout the academic program. This presentation provided new arrivals with practical guidance and useful contacts for their university life.
The evening continued in the Faculty Lounge with a walking dinner featuring Liège specialties. This convivial gathering allowed students to get to know one another and interact with staff and diplomatic representatives.
By bringing together the new arrivals and those who can support them, this event laid the groundwork for their integration into ULiège and their life in Liège.
