The University of Liège is mobilising to welcome, support and facilitate the integration of those who had to flee their country and wish to continue their academic activities in our institution.

"War is a scourge humanity has never managed to get rid of, and its brutal return to Europe opens our eyes to the horror it unleashes, here today, but also with hardly any interruption in more distant countries.

By the aggression of Ukraine, it is the values of freedom, humanity and democracy that are under attack. It is more than ever essential to defend them because, when they are not upheld, aggression by a State is always made easier.  We strongly condemn the most extreme aggression that war is, but let us not forget that the lack of respect towards other human beings and the aggressiveness, even seemingly benign, that is still far too present in relations between people are its seeds.

Beyond the help that each of us can bring to the Ukrainian population, as academics, we are particularly sensitive to the fate of the students, researchers and teachers of our sister institutions in Ukraine with whom we are in total solidarity.  Thus, we are mobilized to welcome, support, and facilitate the integration of those who had to flee and wish to continue their academic activities in our institution.

Our attention also goes to the Russian citizens present in our walls or who have left their country out of fear or revolt. They did not have the freedom to choose their leaders."
