A "Sit-in liège students in solidarity for Palestine" is currently taking place at the University of Liège, on the Place du 20 août campus.
As a public university open to the world and is anchored in the scientific, cultural and economic development of its region, the University of Liège relies on its three pillars: teaching, research and civic engagement.
ULiège trains responsible citizens who are provided with cutting-edge knowledge and critical thinking, are able to share knowledge and can push forward an increasingly complex world.
ULiège develops and promotes excellence in research, multidisciplinary and direct engagement with its instruction.
Global exposure is a top priority at the University of Liège. The institution offers a wide range of international mobility opportunities to students, researchers and staff, enabling them to enhance their cross-disciplinary skills and language knowledge.
ULiège: an experience of daily living. Located in 3 cities and 4 campuses, the university is a key player in terms of the environment and mobility.
The Centre for Ethnicity and Migration Studies (CEDEM) of the University becomes, as of 4 April, the coordinator of the European network IMISCOE (International Migration Research Network). The network, which includes more than 61 research institutes, is the largest interdisciplinary research network in Europe in the field of migration, integration and diversity studies. ULiège will be the coordinator for a period of four years.

n 4 April 2022, the current IMISCOE coordinator, Professor Peter Scholten from Erasmus University Rotterdam, will hand over to a duo from ULiège consisting of Prof. Jean-Michel Lafleur and Dr. Daniela Vintila. The team will be completed by Angeliki Konstantinidou and Dr. Mélanie De Winter who will take care of the daily management of the organisation. IMISCOE is a research network consisting of 61 research institutes based in Europe and beyond covering many disciplines such as sociology, political science, economics, law, demography, public administration, geography and history. IMISCOE is also the largest international scientific network for immigration studies.
"CEDEM is one of the founding members of IMISCOE. Over the years, we have organised a significant number of activities in this network and have become one of its pillars," explains Marco Martiniello FNRS Research Director and CEDEM Director. Leading IMISCOE is the next logical step that demonstrates CEDEM's long-standing commitment to the network. The coordination of CEDEM will also guarantee the continuity of IMISCOE".
We believe that IMISCOE has reached a high level of professionalism and international visibility thanks to the excellent work of the team at Erasmus University in Rotterdam," says Jean-Michel Lafleur. By taking over the leadership of the organisation, we commit ourselves to maintain the excellent reputation of the network but also to strengthen its presence outside Europe and to encourage research on issues related to discrimination, one of the greatest challenges facing our societies. "
CEDEM will hold the presidency of the network for a period of four years. IMISCOE organises numerous scientific events each year, including an international conference that brings together more than 1000 researchers from all over the world. IMISCOE also publishes a scientific journal and a collection of books which are both references in the field of migration and ethnic relations.
By taking over the coordination of the IMISCOE network, CEDEM and the University of Liège are further affirming their position as one of the most recognised centres of expertise in the world in the field of migration studies. Founded and directed by Professor Marco Martiniello since 1995, CEDEM has contributed to making the University of Liège a place of expertise but also of societal commitment on immigration issues, whose centrality for our contemporary societies is no longer in question.
