The jury of the French Society of Physics (SFP) has awarded the 2017 Jean-Perrin Prize to Yaël Nazé, a frs-FNRS Research Associate at the High-Energy Astrophysics Group (GAPHE). This award highlights the quality of the works of science popularization of the astrophysicist whose object of study are the massive stars and their interactions with their environment.
Author of 10 books on astronomy, the astrophysicist has been dedicated to the popularization of science for many years and regularly offers lectures to the general public. In the Faculty of Science Yaël Nazé teaches the course "Communiquer la science" (Communicate Science) to young researchers to teach them the basics of scientific communication.
According to the SFP website :
The jury of the Jean Perrin Award was particularly sensitive to the originality of Yael's approach. Conscious of the privileged place astronomy has in the popularization of the "hard" sciences, Yael Nazé takes advantage of the attraction that astronomy exerts on the general public to use it to catch the interest of people and lead them to other subjects such as chemistry or physics, but also art, or to the question of the place of women. The jury is keen to highlight the work of Yael Nazé towards a wide variety of audiences: children, teenagers, seniors ... What requires to approach astronomy each time from different angles. The influence of these activities goes far beyond the framework of Belgium. Most of the books she has written have been published by French publishers (Belin, Vuibert, CNRS Editions) and she gives numerous conferences in France.
